Raiders wide reciever Henry Ruggs III faces a charge of DUI resulting in death after he was involved in a fatal car wreck.

The crash was reported around 3:39 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning and involved two cars, according to reporters for News Now Las Vegas. Ruggs was confirmed behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette that apparently collided into the rear of a Toyota Rav4.

The Las Vegas Police Department said that the Toyota was in flames with a deceased victim inside as first responders arrived. Ruggs was transported to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and now faces the DUI charge.

The Raiders said Tuesday afternoon that although Ruggs is still active on their roster, the team is gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.

The law in Nevada states that a DUI resulting in death is a category “B” felony, which is the second-most severe level of felony in the state. The crime is punishable by a minimum of two years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years, with a fine between $2,000 and $5,000. The offense is also non-probational, meaning that if a person is convicted they must go to prison.

As details continue to be released about the wreck, Ruggs’ future with the Raiders and with the NFL is in jeopardy. His attorneys told The Associated Press that they are investigating the crash and “ask everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are gathered.”

Ruggs was selected 12th overall by the Raiders in the first-round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
